Like I said before.
Offence wins games.
Defense wins championships.
Pistons and Spurs. I called it.
Except, I'm now rooting for the Pistons.
Why?
Sure the Spurs have Parker and Ginobili (the likely playoff MVP for the Spurs), but otherwise the team is built around Tim Duncan. Unfortunately, this has been the trend in the NBA since the start of the Bull's dynasty. From 1991-2003, only four different teams won the championship: Bulls, Rockets, Spurs and the Lakers. The similarity between the four teams? They were built around 1-2 superstars.
Bulls: Jordan & Pippen
Rockets: Olajuwon then Olajuwon & Drexler
Spurs: Duncan & Robinson then just
Lakers: Shaq &
Sure each team had key role players, but otherwise those teams revolved around these superstars. Could you say the same about the 2003-2004 champion Pistons?
Nooooooooo.
You see, Joe Dumars (Pistons' President of Basketball Operations) had a crazy ol' idea for the Pistons. He would try to assemble a TEAM.
Hence why I'm rooting for the Pistons.
I also wished that more NBA players would worry more about the mastering the fundamentals (ie, passing, a lost art nowadays) as opposed to appearing in rap videos.
