Day 4: Boston (1)

No unlimited bus fare here. Fortunately, Boston is fairly compact.

It was pouring rain when I awoke and I was worried that the afternoon ball game was going to be postponed, but luckily it slowed dramatically by game time.

Maggiano’s Little Italy

Salad with bleu cheese, prosciutto, onions and house dressing.

Crab and shrimp cannelloni.

A number of celebs have also visited this place.

A number of churches in the area.

Fenway Park.

The Green Monster. Not as imposing from the bleachers. Probably a different story on the field and at home plate.

Fenway frank. Best ballpark hot dog I’ve had so far. Not that it’s saying much. Really small bun.

Fried dough with powdered. I only ordered this because of the name. Really.

Fenway Park. First seat upgrade.

Fenway Park. Second seat upgrade.

Ichiro

The fancy innards of the Boston Public Library.

Along with my hostel roommate Terrence, I checked out the 2.5 mile Freedom Trail. Unfortunately because of the ballgame ending at ~4:30, many of the sites on the trail were closed. Following the trail was also a major pain as the red line inexplicably disappears for stretches leaving me very disorientated. Terrence seemed to take great offense at my suggestion that stamp/coin collectors were a dying breed.

Mike’s Pastry

Chocolate chip cannoli $3.50.

Why oh why didn’t I order more of these. Much like the French toast in Chicago, it’s probably downhill from here when I order cannolis in the future as I’ve developed a taste for them.

Whoopie Pie.

Meh, tastes like something you’d get out of the wal-mart cookie aisle.

Lobster Tail (Sfogliatella).

Very decadent.

The stupid trail disappeared after Copp’s Hill Burying Ground. It was dark and I started to get tired, so I decided not to find the bunker mill monument which could be seen on the horizon.

Some other warship near the USS Constitution.

Much like any old city, there was no sense of urban planning back in the day and this was very evident in the north end of boston.

I tried getting into Neptune Oyster, but I got the boot because it was closing time.

Union Oyster House. Established 1826. The oldest restaurant in the USA.

Lobster roll.

The lobster roll was alright, but I’m not a big lobster guy and hence it wasn’t really worth the $22.
