(Note: Gank is a term used in Dota)

Depending on who you ask, Gank is the portmanteau of either a) gang kill or b) gangbang flank.

Personally I think it’s the latter because gang kill is so ambiguous. Most successful ganks involve

1. Flanking your opposition
   
2. Outnumbering your opposition
   
3. Fucking up your opposition

A and B are important in flanking
B and C usually occur in a gangbang

But who wants to type gangbang flank? Hence we have gank.
