North Star

This may be of interest to my bespectacled peers.

I needed a new pair of glasses because my old pair was over prescribed causing my eyes to tire quickly. So I bought a pair from Zenni Optical. If you check out the website, you'll notice glasses on sale for less than 10 bucks. A scam you say? Nah. After some investigation, I discovered most of the eyeglasses cost is due to optometrist overhead. Zenni cuts out the middleman and passes the savings onto you.

I eventually selected a higher price pair ($23.95) and since I have a higher prescription (-7.00), I ordered a lenses with a higher index (aka thinner lenses, 1.67 @ +$37). Overall after shipping, my glasses costed a mere $72.85. Not bad considering an optomerist told me to expect to fork over $300-500.

It took 3.5 weeks for the glasses to ship and so far, I'm very satisfied with my pair.

The only tricky part in ordering is acquiring the pupillary distance because it's not normally listed on your prescription. And optomerists are reluctant to give it away. Therefore, just get the number from apathetic service reps at chains such as Lenscrafters or BS something like a science experiment.

Over 6 years ago (sept 2002), I bought a gamecube as soon as I recieved my student loan. And today, I bought my first system since then:

Why did I buy it? If you don't know, I've accept a position in Alaska that requires me to fly into the operation for 2 weeks before getting 1 week of time off. I need something to keep me entertained when I start work this sunday.
